Meigetsuin 明月院

Meigetsuin hydrangea

Meigetsuin 明月院 is known as the Hydrangea Temple - really close to Kita Kamakura Station with incredible blue hydrangeas in early June. It was much better than I imagined, the whole temple grounds covered in mostly blue hydrangeas, 2500 to be exact. However, it was also pretty crowded, even on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. You have to pay another 500 yen if you want to see the small inner garden which has irises also in full bloom in early June - not a big garden, but quite beautiful. It's worth seeing even if you've already seen Hase-dera's multi-colored hydrangeas.
