junior sumo bouts |
If you want sumo tickets on the cheap, you've got to get up early and stand in line for a while to get numbered tickets 整理券 then buy the actual tickets with those. Of course, the tickets can run out if you don't get there early enough - we tried twice and succeeded the second time. They start with junior bouts early in the day then move on to the "real" matches with famous yokozuna champions later in the afternoon. The thing with the junior matches is that because they are not famous, the stadium is practically empty so you can move up close and get a good look. Since I'm not a sumo expert nor am I a sumo enthusiast, I couldn't really tell the difference other than the fact that they are smaller. You get get a reentry stamp and go back in later for the real thing, which is of course more impressive, but you'll be a lot farther away.
